The Bar-headed Goose is often kept in captivity as it is considered beautiful and breeds readily. The species has bred on several occasions in recent years and around five pairs were recorded in 2002 (the most recent available report of the Rare Birds Breeding Panel). The bird is sociable and causes no problems for other birds. The wild population is believed to be declining due to over-hunting. The Bar-headed Goose is believed to be the highest flying bird having been seen at up to 10175 m (33,382 feet). It has a slightly larger wing area for its weight than other geese and it is believed this helps the goose to fly so high. had geese --These are pinioned and at day old and dont fly .
We now do an extensive range of widfowl . These birds are of excellent quality and their colors are stunning. Not only are they very pretty but their sounds and calls are very unique . They are unlike domestic ducks in the fact that they make no mess and are exceptionally clean. They are mostly kept in ponds just 10 inches deep . They spend almost 100% of their time on the water . Their nesting boxes can be nailed to a post and a ramp on which they can climb into it, They are all pinioned at a day old so they dont fly away . We only sell adult birds in pairs which will be ready for breeding next season. Most of these breeds are only available in small numbers . You can easily get pictures on Google.
Viewing of the birds can be arranged .It is quite a spectacle to see all the different breeds together on the lake .If you have a particular favorite which you don't see on the list please ask we will try and get it for you . These birds are of exceptional quality and in most cases are not cheap but they are well worth it when you see them in reality..Once you have picked your favorite then we will be happy to give you a price .
Another important point is, be sure to fence off an area to keep out foxes and dogs etc .you don't need high fencing as they don't fly .
